2. A Voice Warm-up

I introduced a voice exercise I'd learned in Richard Armstrong’s International Voice Workshop at the Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity in Banff, Alberta, Canada. The workshop started every day with this exercise. Ann, Matt and I stretched out on the living room floor, imagining our bodies as tubular, wind-powered instruments. Initially silently, we became aware of our voice by stretching long, collapsing, writhing from side to side, stretching long again, and observing how the movement impacted our airflow.

When we listened to our breathing and initiated the movement eventually using only diaphragm and core, it was possible to experience a connection with the sound of our own voices especially on the exhale.
